Film clips on the relationship between popular culture’s production of masculinity and violence

I have been scanning the web to find some multimedia resources for my winter term course, Education Equal Opportunity: Patriarchy.

And I just found this site posting many short videos that are relevant to the course.  The series of short clips below engage in a serious conversation about how children internalize the social production masculinity and in relation to the male violence spread across our youth culture. The final speech below is on school violence and respect, power, and manhood combined with easy access to guns.

It is so interesting to me how rarely the popular press points to this phenomena in all the hand wringing about boys, it is only for brief windows just after graphic violence that we as a society discuss boys and violence and then it is not with much thought to a gender identity constructed around maintaining respect and power over others.
